Where Are You Now?(Part 1): Assessing Your Life Plans

When considering buying a home, it is so important to know your life plans. Just like with a map: in order to know how to get to where you are going, you first have to know where you are starting. Before beginning the search for your perfect home, take time by yourself or with your partner or family and consider a few questions

1. How long do you hope to stay in the area where your potential house is located?

If you are planning to move again within the first few years, this would impact how much you want to spend on a house, how much money you want to put down, and what you expect to get out of it once you sell again

2. Are you buying with a partner or expect to gain a spouse or partner while in the house?

This question can help determine the size of the house and whether or not you want to buy now or wait.

3. Do you have any health concerns or disabilities to consider?

This will determine what kind of accessibility your buyer’s representative needs to consider when helping you on your search.

4. Will there be children in the house? Pets?

This may merit a home with a larger yard or a fence, or room for more storage or open space for playing.

5. Do you have a job or any interests that require larger amounts of storage?

This will have an impact on the outdoor space or room for storage within the house.

Whether you are ready to begin the home-buying process or just browsing, these are the types of questions that can help you set your course for the right home for you as well as a good timeline on when to move, especially if you have a house to sell now.
