What is the story of your house?

What was it about this house that made you want to buy it when you did?  When it is time to sell your home, it is highly likely that the next owner will fall in love with it for the same reasons you have.  If we can get this message to potential buyers, we have a better chance of finding the one.

In order to do this, though you have some work to do. Have your thought about what's happened in your house over the years; the joys, the happiness the growth of each person who has lived there?

When we put our house on the market, we started thinking about what we would miss the most and the memories we would take with us.  The first was easy.  We have a doorjamb in our pantry Kelly is probably going to make me take with us when we move, because it has the heights marked of each of our children as they've grown up.  It is a wonderful memory of living in this house that tells the story of continuity for a family.  We have had lots of frisbee and touch football games in the front yard and whiffle ball games in the backyard.  We have enjoyed movie nights together in our spacious den, ping-pong in the garage and air hockey in the bonus room.  Each of our kids has had the opportunity to decorate and redecorate their rooms to fit their personalities as they have matured, from music to sports to pageants and their faith.

These are all things that define our life but they also can contribute to the story of a house. Because so many people begin their search online for house is important to have something to capture and engage their interest.
Everybody can state the facts, like the number of bedrooms or the number of square feet, the size of the yard, the exterior the interior, floors, etc.,but sometimes the what separates one house from another is the story.

Is your home a one owner residence, or have there been a lot of them over the years? Has it been restored or did you build it.  You know what is  fun to do around the house, what’s nice about the neighborhood as well as what is nice about the community. All these things contribute to creating a story for your home.

One of the things Kelly and I like to do is sit down with you and just ask you about your favorite part of the house, your favorite part of the neighborhood and what you like about living here.  Oftentimes people will ask why you are moving away, but they don’t think to ask why you moved there in the first place That is part of what we want to use to help someone else see this is great place for them as well.

Even if it's not time to sell your house you might want to take time to capture the best of what you like about this house and why it's important to you and your family so when the time comes your will have a compelling story for us to use in selling your home.
